Tuesdays of the Nation”: Under Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé’s Leadership, Haiti Mobilizes 6 Billion Gourdes for a National Emergency Relief Plan

Port-au-Prince, May 6, 2025 – At the seventh edition of “Tuesdays of the Nation,” held at the Prime Minister’s official residence, the Haitian government reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the country’s multidimensional crisis with both security and humanitarian responses. The event, initiated and led by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, showcased a bold new direction in national governance.

Opening the event, Secretary of State for Communication Bendjy Tilias announced a substantial 7-billion gourde allocation to the Ministry of Defense to reinforce the logistical capacities of Haiti’s Armed Forces (FAd’H). This investment, made possible through decisions led by the Prime Minister, has already resulted in the acquisition of 27 troop transport vehicles and two military engineering trucks—a critical step in the fight against armed groups that continue to destabilize the country.

But the government’s plan extends beyond the battlefield. Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé is also steering a robust social response to the humanitarian crisis that has worsened under the pressure of violence and displacement. Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Georges Wilbert Franck, revealed a 6-billion gourde multisectoral emergency relief program aimed at supporting the most vulnerable—displaced individuals, impoverished families, and returning migrants.

This emergency initiative includes cash assistance to 10,000 displaced individuals to help them relocate to safer areas, alongside ongoing distributions of hot meals, food kits, and dry rations in the most affected communities. These interventions are part of the government’s broader strategy to deliver swift, tangible relief while laying the groundwork for long-term recovery.

Minister Franck underscored that this program is not just about aid, but about restoring human dignity—a vision driven directly by the Prime Minister’s leadership. “We must address the urgent needs of those uprooted by violence and poverty, while also creating pathways for recovery and reintegration,” he said.

Haiti’s migration crisis has further intensified the need for decisive government action. In 2024 alone, over 60,000 Haitians were deported from the Dominican Republic, and projections indicate that at least 15,000 more may voluntarily return in 2025. To manage this influx, the government has established three strategic reception zones along the border, where returnees will be welcomed in humane conditions, with immediate support for their reintegration.

All operations under this emergency program are being monitored by specialized government task forces, deployed across camps and high-need areas. Strict oversight protocols have been put in place to ensure that resources are distributed fairly, transparently, and efficiently.

“Our priority, as guided by Prime Minister Fils-Aimé, is to ensure that every gourde reaches those who need it most,” Minister Franck affirmed. “We are committed to accountability and to delivering real impact.”

With the mobilization of 6 billion gourdes in emergency social aid and 7 billion in defense reinforcement, the Fils-Aimé administration is taking bold, integrated action to stabilize the country—addressing both the root causes and immediate consequences of the ongoing crisis. This approach reflects a new era of governance: one grounded in responsibility, compassion, and strategic foresight.
